The template is a Word document (.docx). Open it in Microsoft Word, Google Docs or WPS Office on your phone or computer, fill it in, and print or save it.
What to write in each section
- Subject, Grade, Year, Term, Week and Start date: copy these from your ATP so the lesson matches the week your HOD expects.
- Topic: the topic the ATP gives for that week, in the same words.
- Content: the content and concepts from the ATP that this lesson covers. If the topic runs over several weeks, only this week’s part.
- Aims and objectives of the lesson: two or three things learners will be able to do, starting with a verb: name, explain, calculate, compare.
- Prior content knowledge: what learners already know from earlier lessons or grades that you will build on.
- Link with the next lesson: how today prepares learners for what comes next.
- Vocabulary / important words: new terms learners must understand and use.
- Teaching methods: for example explanation, demonstration, questioning, pair work or group work.
- Teacher activities and learner activities: side by side, for the introduction, the body of the lesson and the conclusion, with time for each.
- Resources: DBE workbook pages, textbook, charts, objects or worksheets.
