Privacy Policy
Last updated: 14 October 2026
The short version
- We collect only what we need to run Lesson Plan Gen: your name, email, the documents you upload, the lessons you make and your payment records.
- We use your ATP and school format to make your lesson plans. To do that, the text is processed by OpenAI, an AI provider in the United States.
- We never sell your information and we do not show adverts.
- Please do not upload learners’ names or other personal details. The service is made for teachers’ planning documents.
- You can ask us to see, correct or delete your information at any time.
1. Who we are
Lesson Plan Gen is run by Thandezinhle Trading and Enterprise (Pty) Ltd (registration number 2025/757478/07), Ezifisweni Reserve, Ward 7, Mtubatuba, KwaZulu-Natal, 3935, in South Africa. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean Thandezinhle Trading and Enterprise (Pty) Ltd, and “you” means a teacher or other person using Lesson Plan Gen.
We are the “responsible party” for your personal information under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA). Our Information Officer can be reached at info@lessonplangen.co.za.
2. What we collect
When you create an account: your name and surname, email address and password. Your password is stored only in scrambled (hashed) form; we cannot read it. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and a Google account number from Google.
When you use the service:
- the Annual Teaching Plans (ATPs) and school lesson plan formats you upload, and what we read from them (grades, subjects, terms, weeks and topics);
- the lesson plans you make, save and download;
- ratings and comments you choose to give us;
- your language choice, which is stored on your device.
When you pay: the lesson pack, amount, date and payment status. Card and Instant EFT payments are handled by PayFast; we never see or store your card or bank login details. If you pay by bank transfer, we keep the proof of payment you upload or send us, and your payment reference.
To keep accounts safe and the free trial fair: the internet (IP) address you signed up from, a random device code stored in a cookie on your phone or computer, and the type of browser you use. We use these only to protect accounts and to see when one person creates many accounts.
When you contact us by email or WhatsApp: your messages and contact details.
3. Why we use it
We use your information to:
- create and run your account, and keep you signed in;
- read your ATP and school format, and make lesson plans from them;
- count your lessons, take payments and add lessons you buy;
- send you emails you need: confirming your email address, password links, payment confirmations and important changes to the service;
- help you when you ask for support, including when your ATP cannot be read;
- prevent abuse, such as one person collecting many free trials, and keep the service secure;
- keep records the law requires, such as payment records for tax.
We do this because it is necessary to provide the service you signed up for (POPIA section 11(1)(b)), to meet legal duties (section 11(1)(c)), or for our legitimate interest in keeping the service safe and fair (section 11(1)(f)). We will not send you marketing messages unless you agree to them.
5. Information sent outside South Africa
Some of our providers, including OpenAI and Google, process information outside South Africa. We only use providers that are bound by data protection terms giving protection similar to POPIA, as section 72 of POPIA requires. By using Lesson Plan Gen you understand that your planning documents are processed this way.
6. Learners’ information
Lesson Plan Gen is for teachers, not learners, and is not meant for anyone under 18. The documents it needs (ATPs and lesson plan formats) do not contain learners’ personal details, so please do not upload class lists, marks, learner names or other personal information about learners. If such information is uploaded by mistake, tell us and we will delete it.
8. How long we keep it
We keep your account information, documents and lesson plans for as long as you have an account. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete it within 30 days.
We keep payment records for five years, because South African tax law requires it. Security records, such as sign-in and device information, are kept for as long as needed to protect the service.
9. How we protect it
We use secure (encrypted) connections, store passwords only in hashed form, limit access to your information to the people who run the service, and record every change our administrators make to an account. No system is perfectly secure, so if we ever learn that your information was accessed without permission, we will tell you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.
10. Your rights
Under POPIA you may:
- ask what personal information we hold about you, and get a copy;
- ask us to correct information that is wrong;
- ask us to delete your information or your account;
- object to how we use your information.
To do any of these, email info@lessonplangen.co.za or WhatsApp 071 737 7666 from the email address or phone you use with us. We reply within 30 days.
If you are not happy with how we handled your information, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa: inforegulator.org.za.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in an important way, we will tell you by email or in the app before the change applies. The date at the top shows when it last changed. You can also read our Terms and Conditions.
