CAPS lesson plans for every grade and subject
Ready-to-teach CAPS lesson plans for Grade R to Grade 12, made from your own Annual Teaching Plan (ATP) and filled into your school's lesson plan format. Download them for Word, print them or change anything you like.
Lesson plans that follow your ATP, week by week
Most lesson plans you find online were written for someone else’s school, term and pace. Your HOD wants lessons that match your ATP: the right topic in the right week, with the assessment the ATP asks for.
Lesson Plan Gen reads your ATP once. After that, you choose the week and get a full lesson plan for it, built from that week's topic, content and concepts. If you teach the topic over several lessons, you get a separate plan for each lesson.
What every CAPS lesson plan includes
Each lesson plan has the parts your school and subject advisor look for:
- Subject, grade, term and week so your HOD can match the lesson to the ATP.
- Topic and content exactly as the ATP sets them for that week.
- Aims and objectives what learners will be able to do by the end of the lesson.
- Prior knowledge and link to the next lesson so lessons build on each other.
- Vocabulary the key words learners need for the topic.
- Teaching methods for example explanation, demonstration, group work and questioning.
- Teacher and learner activities the introduction, the lesson body and the conclusion, with timing.
- Assessment informal checks every lesson, and the formal tasks the ATP asks for.
- Resources DBE workbooks, textbooks, charts and anything else you need.
If your school uses its own lesson plan document, it is filled into that document instead, in the same layout your HOD already knows.
Grades, phases and subjects
Any CAPS subject that has an ATP works. Teachers with more than one subject or grade upload an ATP for each.

- Intermediate Phase (Grade 4 to 6) Home Language, First Additional Language, Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Technology, Social Sciences (History and Geography) and Life Skills.
- Senior Phase (Grade 7 to 9) Languages, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Technology, Economic and Management Sciences (EMS), Life Orientation and Creative Arts.
- FET Phase (Grade 10 to 12) Languages, Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Geography, History, Accounting, Business Studies, Economics, Life Orientation, Tourism, CAT, EGD, Agricultural Sciences and other subjects with an ATP.

Questions teachers ask
Q1.Are the lesson plans CAPS-aligned?+
Yes. Every lesson plan is built from your own ATP (Annual Teaching Plan), which follows CAPS for your grade, subject and term. The topic, content, concepts and assessment for the week come straight from the ATP.
Q2.Which grades and subjects can I make lesson plans for?+
Any CAPS grade from Grade R to Grade 12 and any subject that has an ATP: languages, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Life Skills, Life Orientation, EMS, Technology, Creative Arts and the FET subjects.
Q3.Can I get daily lesson plans, not just weekly ones?+
Yes. Choose how many lessons you teach that week (1 to 5) and the week’s work is split into a separate lesson plan for each lesson. The whole week uses only 1 weekly plan.
Q4.What if my ATP gives one topic to several weeks?+
The topic is shared out over its weeks, so Week 2 teaches the next part instead of repeating Week 1.
Q5.Will it use my school’s lesson plan format?+
Yes. Upload your school’s Word document once and every lesson plan is filled into it. If your school has no format, use our standard CAPS lesson plan format.
Q6.How much does it cost?+
Your first 3 weekly plans are free once you confirm your email address. A weekly plan is all the lesson plans for one subject for one week. After that, packs start at R120 for 20 (R6 each), down to R4 each in the year pack. You pay once. There is no debit order, and your weekly plans never expire.
